Immigrant Protection Act Vote to Be Held in August

Westchester County — Majority Leader Catherine Borgia (D-Ossining), Chairman Michael Kaplowitz (D-New Castle), & Vice-Chair James Maisano (R-New Rochelle) give video statement on status of the Immigrant Protection Act. In statement, Board of Legislators leadership expresses firm commitment for Monday, August 7th vote.

A vote had been expected at Monday’s meeting but Legislator Catherine Borgia said some legislators felt they needed more time to cast a vote. Borgia, Chairman Michael Kaplowitz and Vice-Chair Jim Maisano all said the vote will be definitely held on August 7. “I’m quite disappointed we won’t be having a vote today,” Borgia said.

The Immigrant Protection Act says the county will not use county resources, facilities, and manpower to assist Immigration and Customs Enforcement. Someone pulled over by the county police would not be questioned about their immigration status.

Borgia said she was willing to acquiesce to her colleagues who needed more time, but it is too important to let go for much longer.

“I am looking forward to having a piece of legislation that will really protect Westchester County residents as well as set a tone for Westchester County so we understand the politics of fear have no business here in Westchester.

Maisano said it had been a goal of leadership to have a bipartisan consensus, with as many legislators as possible voting for the legislation.

“It’s time to hear from the legislators as voters,” Maisano said. “We’re going to have a lot of discussions and a lot of conversations to get the law in its best possible state.”

Maisano said he believes the law will pass on August 7.

BOYCOTT FOR BLACK LIVES T-SHIRT  BUY HERE

Colin Kaepernick has committed no crime other than spoke truth to power about the injustices to black people in the United States. For this, he should not be punished by blackballing him from the game of football. If people want change, we must Boycott! It’s up to us to protest but not just physically; with our money. If black lives don't matter to them, then our black dollars shouldn't either.
